An album review by Laura Hartley

Gavin Rossdale, former lead singer and guitarist of British rock band Bush, has released his debut solo album, Wanderlust, a touching and beguiling effort, sure to capture him even more fans.

Produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith), Wanderlust features 13 tracks (plus bonus), with all lyrics written by Rossdale. The first song on the album, Can’t Stop The World, is a fantastic rock anthem, that is sure to have you singing along, “Some days I can see the future/ Some days you seem so far/ I don’t know what I was thinking”.

Other songs, like Future World, offer more haunting lyrics, “I got this razor but it just cuts me up/ I want to look better but I feel worse” but equally as attractive tune. The album does feature some flops, like Beauty in the Beast and Drive, which both easily fade into the background.

Rossdale’s intense and earnest voice makes this a great pop-rock album, although former Bush fans most likely expected something quite different. It’s a shame that all the songs don’t feature the same amount of energy and truthfulness that tracks like Can’t Stop The World, This is Happiness, Forever May You Run and If You’re Not With Us You’re Against Us feature, or this album could really have been a stand out.

Wanderlust is in stores now
