Gavin Rossdale says fatherhood is 'unexpected joy' Printer friendly version Gavin Rossdale has explained that the experience of becoming a father is even more enjoyable than he had expected.

The former Bush frontman and wife Gwen Stefani are parents to two-year-old son Kingston and with a second baby on the way, Rossdale's singing career is now balanced with parental responsibilities.

But speaking to inthenews.co.uk after the release of his new solo album Wanderlust, he explained that while he isn't likely to be writing a song about Kingston in the near future, his son continues to surprise.

"Artistically, I don't think fatherhood changes you that much," he admitted.

"You hear about this 'great surge of creativity', but sometimes you feel creative, sometimes feel like a sloth!"

He added: "What changes is that there's a really enjoyable, unexpected joy. It's really fun watching him grow stronger."

The 40-year-old said that, as a two-year-old, Kingston can sometimes be a lot to cope with but added: "That's his gig!

"What's weird is how fleeting it is, in terms of stages," he continued.

"I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks and it's going to be exciting to see how he's changed. And he's really enjoying me at the moment so I felt bad leaving.

"Before when I've left, it's been like 'Oh, the cook's left!' Now he cares more, so it's a bit of a crusher."

Rossdale, who performed a mixture of solo, Bush and Institute material at his show at the Underworld in Camden, north London this week, said that he and Stefani have "no idea" of the sex of their next child.

"[We're] living the dream of surprises," he added.

Wanderlust is out now.
