Gavin Rossdale Goes Green

Gavin Rossdale gets in some father-son bonding time with Kingston, 2, at Carbon Beach in Malibu, Calif., on Sunday afternoon. The pair was seen walking along the beach with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi.

Gavin, 42, wore a “Go Green” t-shirt and even wore green board shorts to prove it! His wife, No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani, gave birth to their second son Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. Can’t wait to see the cutie pie!

Zuma Isn’t Keeping Gavin Rossdale Up

X17 caught up with Gavin Rossdale out in Taluca Lake, California on August 28 for a lunch date with his parents, and on the way home, a photographer managed to sneak in a quick conversation - about whether new baby Zuma is keeping Gavin up at night!

“No way!” Gavin replied. “Sleeping like a baby.”

Gavin took his parents to see the Santa Monica mountains up close, and when asked directly about his new son, who was born nine days ago, Gavin laughed and said,

“You know I’m not going to tell you anything!”

Yesterday, Gavin and his stepfather took Gavin’s other son, 2-year-old Kingston, out to the park.

Why Gwen and Gavin named their son Zuma

Expert: Why Gwen Named Her Son Zuma
Friday August 22, 2008

By naming their newborn son Zuma Nesta Rock, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale "have proven decisively that they're masters in choosing names that are both highly unusual and carry a lot of personal meaning," baby name expert Pamela Redmond Satran, co-author of The Baby Name Bible, tells Usmagazine.com.

"They've continued their own place-naming tradition by naming their son after Zuma Beach in Malibu," Satran explains, citing a profile of Rossdale which said he had an epiphany that began his career.

"He was standing on Zuma Beach in the early morning after working all night as a production assistant on a music video and was quoted as saying he realized he was wasting his time," Satran says. "He drove up the coast, slept in his car, and started making the moves that would launch his career."

Zuma is also the name of a 1975 album by Neil Young and Crazy Horse.

Nesta, meanwhile, was Bob Marley's first name before an immigration official switched it with his middle name, Robert.

"This name obviously links to big brother Kingston's and is another nod to Jamaica and reggae," says Satran.

Bob Marley's son Ziggy used Nesta as a middle name for his son, as did his other son Rohan, who has a son named John Nesta Marley with singer Lauryn Hill.

The name Rock "needs no explanation," given that the baby's parents are rock stars, Satran says, and the fact that we're "long overdue for a Rock Hudson-inspired revival."

See photos of Hollywood babies and learn the meaning of their names.

Weighing 8 1/2 lbs., Zuma was born at 12:46 p.m. in L.A. Thursday.

Look back at photos of Gwen Stefani's bump.

"Everyone is just so very happy," Rossdale's father Douglas told Us Friday morning. "It's fantastic news, and I'm just so happy."

back in lalala
Current mood: crunk

hello.
back home from the shows.i have been writing bits and pieces on my gavinrossdale.com site but yes i have been neglectful here.

so-apologies.
we have been having a huge time out there at all the shows.so many great nights
and faces,familiar and new.
and the vibe.wowza.the kind of energy that gives sense to my world of music.
thx.

i have a great band, they have been consistently committed and played their brains out at each show.
i have gotten so many emails about the touring schedule-
you know i want to come play wherever you are.and i will.
the plan,so you know,is to the let record to blossom and
shine a light into your world-then we will tour.

it is not personal.well actually it's all personal but the point being that i am working my way towards you all the time.

i'm glad you have gotten the chance to hear-jungle in the circus-here
it is a cool track that i did with the excellent chris traynor.
it was so hard trying to choose the songs for the record and then the whole idea of extra/bonus tracks for some and not others drives me crazy(it was a bonus track in europe).in 2008.but it is how it is done at this point.
which is why i requested that it be put on the player.
really glad people are digging it.

since i've been back from the great seattle,i have been enjoying the olympics.i only mention it as there is a swim relay on in the background.
australian girls winning the relay.
screaming with delight,as you would if you won a gold medal.
now the crazy strong gymnasts.
insane.

anyhow
i just finished a day in the studio working on a cool version of love remains the same.

you will get to hear it-and it was a good day.enough said about that for now.but you'll see.

so,my little note draws to a close,i wonder what is next for me tonight.
i have to power the studio down, letting the cables sleep.
everyone needs a little rest.

it is mad hot here, which for an english person,is still a shocker.
a world on holiday.

which reminds me it's been a while since i packed a bag to go away for
a holiday.no complaints but it's about time.
not perfect time for a holiday right now but worth thinking about.
gawping at travel magazines with impossibly beautiful hotels around the world.
now that is doable-right now.

can i find a late night magazine shop?
maybe in london or nyc,but not here in la.
on franklin maybe?

better start searching around the house.

who knows-could be something somewhere.

be lucky

35,000 feet again.

---------------------------------------

Flying from Toronto to la.

It’s been a great few weeks since I last wrote.

First off,the shows in the mid west were brilliant.

the shows wherever we've played have been something else.

Since it’s the start of the record and playing shows, itseems best to have no expectations and allow each night to be something new.

I can see how the record is firing into people’slives.making assassin music.

I’ll stay the dark horse.

So,each show takes me further out there.

And the audiences….thankyou…you fire me up.

I’ve always thought the shows are looped and energy comesaround, and you treated us like friends you just pick back up with,no matter howlong since you’ve seen them.

And I know there’s new people there too-and so we start anew dialogue and that’s music.

I still consider this really early on this record,

So many still unaware but the word is out and the showsreflected that.

We had a blast in san diego-did some acoustic shows (3 actually)-totally stripped down andintimate.

And then had a brilliant day watching the horses and playinga show at the racetrack at del mar,and the crowd was immense.and wherever youcould see, there were people.rammed is another word.you gotta love that.

And all on a warm summer night.one of those perfect momentsyou have to hold with everything you got.

Then onto vegas-the playground of excess.i love vegas.it isbuilt for pleasure.

We played the joint-which brought back so many bushmemories(like most shows)but I remember the first time we played there, and whowas with us and what we did, yeah, memories……….anyhow the show was excellent.

Then we did an acoustic set at wasted space, the new barinside the hard rock..which was hilarious.i totally enjoyed myself and felt like lenny bruce as the crowd was there to party(vegas)and

We only had a couple of acoustic guitars…so we played awhile and it was surreal and I loved the chaos.

Then on into the good night …,we went out till someonementioned it was light outside and we should be getting flights home.

And these last few days been up here in Toronto-doing promofor the record and “mentoring”on Canadian idol

And performing on there.

It’s obviously a world and a half away from what I know ordo, but quite a way to play to Canada on one night.

I enjoyed it,the contestants really cared about the musicand their singing.as they should, but it was good to see.

I watched them the night after we had discussed their songsand found myself rooting for them all.

I look forward to coming back to Canada to play some showslater in the year.we’ve had some massive shows there.

Some weird airplane food has arrived and I need to have itremoved.so,I have to go get some help.

It’s staring at me and I don’t like it.
